Shortly after HAIDA was moved to Ontario Place in 1971, Commander Frank Stockwell was appointed as the ship's Captain. He remained with her until his retirement in September of 1986. In June of 1976, Stockwell applied for and received a marine radio licence. This licence was first discovered in 2008 when it was scanned and then forgotten. It was re-discovered in 2020 . Although mot shown on the licence, the authorized emission type would be FM.HAIDA historian, Peter Dixon, provides some background on the marine licence acquisition. "That license would have been acquired for the Sea Cadet Boatswain Course. This was a DND summer training course for Royal Canadian Sea Cadets. There were 45 cadets, and 5 staff cadets and four Officers (one of whom was me). I presume the license was acquired for use by the Safety Boat used in sailing instruction.
We had four Albacore sail boats moored to a pair of contact mines by the breakwater. It was an event getting the boats ready for sailing. I don't recall ever using a radio even though I was the Instructor. I know we never had a radio in the Motor seaboat which I maintained. If anywhere, the marine radio would have likely been in the Captain's Day Cabin or possibly the Captain's Pantry"
