LOCATION: Ran aground off Ile de Bas.

HAIDA'S MISSION: Hostile Mission (seek and destroy enemy).

ACTION: HMCS HAIDA and HMCS ATHABASKAN were about to engage several German destroyers when ATHABASKAN was struck amidships by a torpedo. Five minutes later she blew up and sank. HAIDA pursued T27 and put her out of action before returning to pick up survivors from her sister ship.
