Presented below, are HAIDA'S pertinent statistics. The armament reflects her final configuration.
Builders : Vickers Armstrong Ltd; Newcastle-on-Tyne, England. Vickers yard #41 (before naming) Keel laid : September 29, 1941. Launched : August 25, 1942 by Lady Laurie. Commissioned : August 30, 1943. Date of completion: Sept 18, 1943 (Completion and commissioning are usually two different dates for naval ships) De-commissioned: October 11, 1963. Displacement : 2,200 standard; 2,744 tons fully loaded. Length : 377 feet overall. Beam : 37.5 feet. Draught : 11 feet, 9 inches forward; 15 feet, 2 inches aft. Engines : Two Parsons steam turbines; 22,000 shp each. Boilers : Three, Admiralty 3 drum type. Fuel Capacity : 520 tons of Bunker 'C' oil provided a range of 5,200 nm at 15 knots or 1,700 n/m at 20 knots. Speed : 36.5 knots maximum. Original cost : 677,140 pounds Sterling (around $Cdn 3.4 million in 1943). Armament (1960): Four, 21 inch torpedo tubes. Two, twin 4 inch guns (A and B mounts - forward). Two, 3 inch 50 cal guns (aft mounting). Six, aft mounted, Squid mortar bomb launchers. Four, 40 mm single barrel Bofors.
Crew : The number varies depending on what era is being referenced. Wartime - 245; Peacetime - 225. There were 14 working officers including the captain and up to four officer-cadets in training. These cadets bunked in Cabin #7 which in the late 1950's became #3 naval stores that housed all the electronic parts. Upon build, HAIDA was provisioned with 270 billets but not all of these would be filled. If HAIDA became a Command Ship, then there would be 20 more personnel aboard which could easily be accommodated with the spare billets. On HAIDA's first commission in 1943, there were 16 officers including the captain.Billet Details:
