DECCA  - STRAIT OF HORMUZ

As reported in the April 1978 issue of Decca Navigator News, a contract was negotiated with the Ports and Shipping Organization of the Ministry of Roads and Transportation of the Imperial Government of Iran for the supply and installation of equipment for a new Decca chain to provide coverage over the Strait of Hormuz.

The chain, which had been designed with red and green slaves only, was to provide accurate navigational coverage on the approaches to the port of Bandar Abbas and for commercial shipping entering and leaving the Gulf. The proposed chain will enhance the coverage provided by the other two Gulf chains which are operated by the Middle East Navigation Aids Service. The equipment was to be installed in structures to be provided by the Ports and Shipping Organization. It was expected that the chain was to become operational by 1979, however, it  was never built due to the Iranian revolution. The chain does appears on a Decca document published in 1982.
