Location: Dhrangadhra, State of Gujarat, western India 1976
Station: Purple
Equipment: Control room, 820 equipment. Station control desk in the foreground, equipment racks behind. To the left are the transmitters and tank units. Main electrical switchboard is on the right. Note dangerously spinning ceiling fan adjacent to main equipment racks. This made working on the clock units a perilous affair unless the fan switch was disabled. No air conditioning was installed on these sites.

Taken in 1976, this photo illustrates the transport of supplies to the Decca station. The  gentlemen sitting on the trailer nearest the camera is Alan Smith with Peter Baines sitting on the jeep; both were Decca field engineers. In the second unit at the right side, the boy in the blue is Arjun, the station cook and the person in the white jacket is presumably one of the drivers. (Photo courtesy David Jones)

DHRANGADHRA STATION STAFF, 1976:  Decca engineer Alan Smith is second from the right. The others were all station staff, employed by the Indian Dept. of Lighthouses. The station engineer is on the far right and Mr. Kurup, a technician is on the far left. The tall  man in the background was the diesel mechanic (always worried in case we  wore out his generators by constant use). In the middle is the second engineer while the younger guy is a technician. All were very friendly and  supportive towards Decca UK staff during the months that they were with them. The Indian staff all  lived on the station property with their families. (Photo courtesy David Jones)
