This is the way the navy intended a sailor to lay out his "kit muster". All these items were positioned on his hammock for inspection, with everything neat, clean, compact and no Irish pendants. This particular kit belonged to a new entry, ordinary seaman undergoing training at Cornwallis. It consists of 70 odd items (count them) issued gratuitously on his arrival at the establishment, and includes practically everything, from toothbrush and "Pusser's dirk" to kit bag and oilskin coat. All these items would be needed in the pursuit of his naval career, ashore and afloat. (From Crowsnest Magazine July 1950. RCN photo DB-861-2).
This model of Iroquois was made by Don Digout (right), son of Vic Digout a former ERA who served aboard Iroquois from 1943 to 1945. Vic was the ship's barber as well. Proudly assisting Don is Tom Ingham. (Photo courtesy of Tom Ingham)

As part of Russia's 60th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945, certificates were issued to those Canadian veterans who participated in the Russian theatre of war directly or indirectly and applied for the commendation. One example would be Canadian naval personnel who sailed on the Murmansk run. (Image courtesy Ted Doyle) 60th Anniversary medal. (Image courtesy Ted Doyle).
