Grid Leak Detector Rheostat

grid_leak_detector_rheostat.jpg
This is a Cutler-Hammer "Grid Leak” rheostat, circa 1924. The slotted metal link is there so that you can adapt it to parallel any capacitor.  The pin that contacts the large disk is made from graphite. The ad states that the graphite pin wears away  thus having to necessitate the occassional cleaning of the the large disk that it makes contact with.   (Photo by Tom Brent)
