214ress.jpg In April of 1951, while participating in exercises in the Caribbean with HMCS
MAGNIFICENT, the two ships encountered a drifting Dominican passenger vessel, the Gilbert Jr. The vessel, with 12 women passengers, a crew of 2 and a load of livestock including a horse was "buttoned on" by MICMAC and towed some 200 miles to Willemstadt, Curaco. There, the tow was transferred to a tug and the two Canadian ships sailed for Trinidad. (Photo via Walter Emery)
214refuell_s.jpg Fueling astern of HMCS MAGNIFICENT around spring 1951. In this uncommon refuelling technique, the fuel line was pumped full of air and floated astern. The ship to be fueled would pick up the hose and secure it.
For whatever reason, the fuel line from "Maggie" has ruptured and is spewing oil as attested by the long slick between the ships.  (Submitted by Jerry Sullivan. RCN Photo PA198052)
