IN MEMORIAM

Eight Royal Canadian Navy destroyers - HMC Ships
Athabaskan, Cayuga, Crusader, Haida, Huron,
Iroquois, Nootka and Sioux-contributed to UN
operations during the Korean War.

The RCN lost nine men from among the 3621 who
took part. Their names are found on the Naval
Museum of Alberta Korean War Memorial and in
Canada's Books of Remembrance:

Able Seaman Elburne Baikie, HMCS Iroquois
Able Seaman Wallis Burden, HMCS Iroquois
Ordinary Seaman Léon Gauthier, HMCS Nootka
Able Seaman Frank Laker, HMCS Sioux
Able Seaman Vince Liska, HMCS Cayuga
Able Seaman Robert Moore, HMCS Sioux
Lieutenant-Commander John Quinn, HMCS Iroquois
Able Seaman Robin Skavberg, HMCS Athabaskan
Able Seaman Ian Torraville, HMCS Iroquois

The Korean War Memorial at the Naval Museum of Alberta is the only monument in Canada that lists the names of the men lost and the ships involved in the Korean war.
