D/F outfits are distinguished by a nomenclature system which employs a two letter code.

First Letter:

A - Adcock Aerial System
F - Fixed Frame Coil Aerial System
L - Loop Aerial System
R - Rotating Frame Coil Aerial System

Second Letter

A - Alternative HFDF or MFDF
C - Common aerial, Simultaneous reception on HF and MF but alternative DF
H - HFDF only
M - MFDF only
U -  UHF only
V - VHF only.
S - Simultaneous HFDF and MFDF
