AN/ARN-501 TACAN

The ARN-501 TACAN  is designed to operate in conjunction with a land or ship based beacon. The system will provide continuous indications of bearing and slant range distance to the beacon as well as its Morse Code identification signal. The TACAN system requires deviation compensated magnetic bearing information which is automatically combined with the TACAN bearing and displays the aircraft's relative position in relation to the beacon. Aural beacon identification is transmitted every 37.5 seconds.
