This space was used by the Armourer's Mates who were responsible for the maintenance of all the ship's guns. Whenever possible, maintenance was done at a specific gun mount but occasionally parts would be removed for servicing in this this area or in the Engineering Workshop. Today an Armourer's Mate would be known as a Weapons Technician.
