At Whitehorse Airport coordinates 60.7155N, 135.081W , there is an ex-Canadian Pacific DC-3 (CF-CPY) that has been converted into a weather vane. At the time this photograph was taken , it was pointing SE. It only takes a 4 knot wind to move it on its pivot point. CP Air regularly ran this aircraft between Whitehorse, Dawson City and Inuvik in the old days. (Photo courtesy Google Earth).
Erected in 1981 by the Yukon Flying Club, the DC-3 weather vane is one of the most popular attractions in Whitehorse. This photo was taken in 2002. For additional info on this aircraft, please visit the Explore North web site. (Photo by Earle Smith)
This site is north of the Town of Whitehorse and just at the town limits. The “site” was a navigation beacon for the B52 bombers that would patrol the DEW Line during the Cold War. The land has since been recycled for housing. (Photo courtesy Google Earth)
